What Are Beyblades And Why You Need Them?

Beyblades are spinning tops used in competitive gaming. Within the Beyblades toy, players launch their tops into a stadium, intending to stop their opponent's top from spinning or knocking it out of the arena entirely. The player that does this first takes the victory. 

This guide details the different Beyblade components and provides tips and tricks for playing this simple yet competitive game. 

When did Beyblades come out?

Although currently trending, Beyblades isn’t a new game at all. Beyblades were first launched in Japan in 1999 by Tomy, with the first series launched to sell more blades. 

Fast-forward to today: Beyblade Bursts are the third generation of Beyblades. The highlight of this third generation is the burst finish, a new way to win the game that involves exploding the opponent’s Beyblades. 

Beyblades are close to the ‘blades’ featured in season 1 of an anime on Netflix. This series follows Valt, a young professional blader trying to reach the World League.

Beyblade Burst

Only two brands can sell official Beyblade Bursty toys, Takara Tomy and Hasbro, with Hasbro being one of our suppliers. 

Within the UK, in particular, Hasbro produced Beyblades are more popular. This is due to their ability to be used within competitive tournaments. 

Beyblade components 

Hasbro Beyblade burst models have three different components. Below, we will describe what these three equally important components do. 

Beyblade energy layer 

This piece will first contact your opponent when the two Beyblades collide. 

Forge disc 

This ring affects the weight of the Beyblade itself. It comes in different shapes and weights, which affect performance in various ways. 

Performance tip

This part of the Beyblade will come into contact with the beystadium. Its width will play a significant role in the speed and stamina of the body itself. 

All these components can be switched around, and different shapes and sizes can be used for various purposes and benefits, depending on the match. 

What are the different types of Beyblades? 

There are different types of Beyblades, and each has distinct strengths. These strengths include attack, stamina, defence, and balance.

The attack Beyblades

The attack Beyblade has a flat tip, allowing for a more significant contact zone on the beystadium. They are quicker and more mobile than any of the other tips. This speed on the beystadium provides a more significant impact when a collision occurs with the opponent. 

The one drawback of this Beyblade is that it reduces speed faster because the weight of its forge disc is not spread regularly, which can lead to uncontrolled aggressive moments. 

The energy layer of this Beyblade plays a significant role because it is serrated, making it easier to grip the opponent. This can result in a burst finish. 

The defense Beyblades 

These Beyblades have the benefit of reducing the impact of opponents as they are the heaviest. 

Their energy level is smooth and round, making the opponent's grip harder. Their tip is round or can come with a ball-bearing system that allows for high stability. 

The stamina Beyblades 

A thin tip limits the friction between the blade and the stadium, helping it maintain a higher rotation speed for extended periods. 

Their forge disc weight is also evenly spread to ensure high stability. 

The balance Beyblades 

These Beyblades combine elements from all three other types of Beyblades, making them the most versatile. 

This allows you to mix the tip of the stamina type with the defense forge disc, which would be placed alongside a serrated layer. 

With over 5000 combinations of Beyblade, each one is unique. Even single component changes can make a huge difference in different battles, making no one game the same. 2, 3 or 4 blades can also be played simultaneously, so the options are limitless.

Beyblade battling equipment 

You will need at least two battling Beyblades, a stadium, and two launchers to hold tournaments. Below, we will discuss the stadiums and types of launchers in more detail.

Beystadium 

This is where the battling happens! It ensures that the fight is contained, with Beyblades able to collide. 

There are multiple Beystadium shapes, with each one allowing for different outcomes. 

For example, some have pits in the corners where the blades could get bumped into, another victory condition that attack beys would look for (alongside bursting their opponent). 

Another example includes the slightly bumpy middle circle to force beys to move in specific ways - making it so even stamina or defense types interact with their opponents.

Beylaunchers 

Although you can launch Beyblades with your hand, Beylaunchers allow you to do powerful launches and tricks. 

Different launchers can be attached to play different Beyblades against one another or see how they work together before playing against opponents.

Beyblade safety rules

Top tips for ensuring you and others stay safe in battle mode. 

• Make sure there is no one and nothing right behind you. You will be using your elbow when pulling the ripcord, so you don’t want to end up elbowing someone accidentally.

•  If you have young children at home, don’t leave small parts hanging around due to choking hazards. The game itself is recommended for those who are 8+

• Ripcords also shouldn't be left unattended as they come with entanglement hazards. 

• Ensure all Beyblades have stopped spinning before you get them outside the stadium.

• Do not lean over the stadium during battle mode, as bursting beys, in particular, could hit you. 

• Battle inside the stadium, away from breakable items. When blades burst, they can sometimes fly out of the stadium and hit nearby items. 

Getting ready for a Beyblade battle 

Once reading the safety rules, you and your opponent will be ready to start battling. 

To begin with, you will need to assemble your Beyblade, which has three components fitted together. 

Then, the ripcord will be placed into the launcher, and the blade will be put into the launcher. The blade should be softly locked so it does not fall off when released. 

Start by holding your launcher atop the stadium, with your bey directly above it. Pull the ripcord once both opponents are ready and watch your bey battle until victory rises. As you launch, tradition also invites the words “let it rip!”. 

Beyblade winning conditions 

A match is played until one player has a total of three points. The points are determined based on the information below. 

• Ring-out finish: You will score one point if one of your opponent's Beyblades is knocked out of the ring or in the Beystadium pits.

• Survivor Finish: You also score one point if your opponent's Beyblade stops spinning and if yours carries on spinning. 

• Bursty finish: During a collision, you score two points if your opponent's blade bursts.

• Mix up and customise your Beyblades to surprise your opponents and adapt to their type of blades. 

• Increase and boost your knowledge of the different types of beys to identify them and switch your components to fight them. The same applies to the various types of stadiums. 

• Practice your launches before a battle. The stronger your launch is, the faster and longer the blade will spin.

Choosing your Beyblade launchers

Good launchers can make significant differences in battles. With some, you can pull either left or right, changing how a Beyblade behaves. 

They can also help you choose where you want to aim. 

Changing strategies 

Like other sports, you don’t want your opponent to know your next move. This is why it's essential to switch up your Beyblades and launchers regularly. Your opponent will learn to adapt if you stick with the same strategy. 

Beyblade launcher styles 

Different launching styles allow you to achieve different things. 

Parallel Beyblade launch 

You may launch your Beyblade parallel to the floor when first using Beyblades. 

With this technique, a high-speed tip blade will circle quickly on the outside of the beystadium. If your opponent plays as a defense type in the middle of the stadium, you will lose momentum much faster, leading to no impact when you collide with your opponent. 

Banking Beyblade launch 

If you choose this launch style, your launcher will parallel the Beystadium’s angle. 

Sliding Beyblade launch 

This move is trickier than previous launchers, as you have to push your launcher forward as you launch. Using this method, your blade will gain high power and momentum as it spins in a flower pattern. Attack-type blades mostly use this move, as this launch style will cause you to collide more often with opponent blades. 

Weak shooting Beyblade launch 

It's similar to a parallel launch but done a lot slower. This will result in your Beyblade moving slowly but erratically to avoid attack-type opponents.

Bayblade tournaments 

Beyblades have proven so popular that they even had their 2018 Beyblade Burst World Championship. 

It was made for bladers between 8 and 13. It took place in Paris, and 24 countries were represented. Balanced Defender from Latvia won.
